CoonTICA – held Congress rings for the first time in the UK at our Easter Purrade show in Bletchley on the 22nd and 23rd April 2006.
What are Congresses?
A Congress is a type of speciality ring where a breed and/or type and category is judged alone. Such as a congress of Maine Coon Adults; or a congress of Maine Coon Neuters; or a mixture of breeds such as a congress of ‘Forest Cats’ which would include the Maine Coon, Siberian and Norwegian Forest. Or you could have a congress for Longhair Male Adults and another congress for Longhair Female Adults, or another congress for Longhair kittens, this would included all the Longhairs irrespective of breed.(PLEASE NOTE in TICA your cat is classified as either Longhair or Shorthair, Semi-Longhair is not used by TICA)
How many cats are in a Congress?
To enable a Congress to count towards titles there must be at least 20 cats present and competing – i.e. taken up to the judging ring. Catalogue absentees are not counted.
Will cats get points towards their titles for the Congress?
Yes, your cats will gain points towards their titles, both in colour and division and also for Finals.
Will the points count for International or Regional Wins?
No.
Why have Congresses?
A Congress allows you to enter your cat to be judged against a restricted category thus improving your chances of gaining points and titles. For instance in TICA males and females are judged together, it can be difficult for females to compete against the males (such is life!) but in a Female Congress it’s “all girls together”.
IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE – to enable CoonTICA to put on Congresses for the Maine Coon or any other category it is important that we know a rough head count well before the show. Early entries are needed please.
